“The Holy War” by John Bunyan (1628-1688) with the subtitles The Losing and Taking Again of the Town of Man-soul (The Holy War Made by Shaddai upon Diabolus, for the Regaining of the World is an allegorical Christian novel that depicts the fictional characters and events to illustrate the Christian spiritual journey. The holy war is the story of “Mansoul” an ideal city built in honor of his benevolent creator and leader, King Shaddai. After being deceived by the evil ruler Diabolus, the city rejects the rule of King Shaddai, and falls deep into the swamps of sin and despair. As battles rage against good and evil, redemption of Mansoul only possible through victory Shaddai son, Prince Emmanuel. Bunyan’s allegory is full of clever characters and gripping drama. The Holy War was written in 1682.
