Atharva Veda Samhita (Atharvaveda) is considered the fourth Veda. The huge work is often referred to as the “Veda of magical formulas” since large part of the scriptures are devoted to spells, rituals, sorcery mixing of potions and religious medicine. The work, here in two volumes translated into English by Professor of Sanskrit at Yale University, William Dwight Whitney and published in 1905 consists of 730 hymns with about 6,000 mantras, divided into 20 books.
